Foods to Avoid on the Mediterranean Diet

#MediterraneanDiet #avoid

Updated this week

The Mediterranean diet emphasizes whole, minimally processed foods, but some foods may not align with its principles. Here’s what to avoid:

Highly Processed Foods
Ready meals, packaged snacks, and processed meats (hot dogs, sausages) are best limited. Stick to fresh, whole ingredients.

Refined Sugars and Sweets
Candy, desserts, and sweetened beverages are discouraged. Opt for fruit as a natural sweet source.

Deep-Fried Foods
Avoid fried snacks, fast food, and foods cooked in highly refined or heavily processed oils. Use olive oil for cooking instead.

Excessive Red Meat
While lean proteins are encouraged, limit fatty red meats in favor of fish, legumes, and poultry.

Refined Grains
White bread, pasta, and pastries are best replaced or balanced with whole grains such as quinoa, farro, oats, or whole-grain pasta.

If you’re unsure about a particular food, you can check the macro content in a certain amount of it using the Search by Name function.
